“The Other People for Best Live Performing Act in Mumbai”!
Being a musician was definitely not on your parents agenda for you in my time, no way! In a way I was very lucky. My Dad loved music, he played the mouth organ, sometimes the box bass, and often picked a mean beat on the glass showcase at our parties, (much to the chagrin of my mum). He encouraged me to play my three chords.
To cut a long story short, I worked in a bank. It gave me the security I needed, every one was happy but me. Music does that to you, it has that subtle way of permeating your very being, until one morning you wake up and realise the catch 22 situation you are in, to play or not to play. My 9 to 5 job paid the bills and for that I will always be grateful.
Like I said before I’ve been lucky. I thank the Good Lord for all that He has done and continues to do for me. To live my dreams, at this age, it’s like being born again. Very few get a second chance!
Parents, your children, no matter how old, allow them to dream and dream big! Bob Dylan sang “for the times they are a-changing” – how right he is, changes are happening all over. These are good days, opportunistic days, the world is their oyster, so to speak. Encourage them to achieve much more than you have and revel in their achievements. Be there for them. Let them go down that long winding road, give them a hand should they stumble and falter, but let them carve out their own path on that road, they will thank you for it one day. It’s better than giving them a 4 wheel drive so they can use the expressway. You don’t learn life’s lessons on the expressway!
Someone once wrote, those dreams of old, most of them might never come true, but aren’t we glad we had them anyway!
And for all you musicians out there, may all your rock and roll dreams come true!!! (Meat Loaf). We certainly are chanting this wherever we go! We’re all revved up to play at Shiro for you this Friday, the 30th of September! We’d love to see you all there with us!
Till next time,
P.S. Being selected as the best Live Performing Act in Mumbai for the inaugural Indian Nightlife Convention Awards was awesome! Trying so hard not to sound like a broken record, but I can’t help myself shouting from the rooftop – WE OWE IT ALL TO YOU! “Thanks for digging our vibe, we’ll keep rocking if you keep rolling” (Big Bang Theory)
